Independent Senator Angus King and ten other senators have raised concerns about the allocation of revenue generated from online sales of national park passes. They allege that ‘much, if not all’ of these funds are being directed towards projects in Washington, D.C., which they describe as ‘vanity projects.’
In a letter addressed to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, the group of eleven senators is requesting clear explanations from the Trump administration regarding this matter. The letter was sent on Wednesday, urging transparency in the use of these fees.
The issue has come to attention as construction activities, such as those seen at the Lincoln Memorial’s Reflecting Pool, continue to raise questions about the financial priorities of the administration. These concerns highlight the need for accountability in how national park funds are utilized.
