Trump’s Request to Dismiss NAACP Pollution Suit Against xAI

1 hour ago 0

In April, the NAACP filed a lawsuit against xAI, alleging that the company failed to obtain an air pollution permit for its Colossus Gas Plant. This plant powers the Colossus 2 data center, which in turn supports the AI chatbot, Grok. The Justice Department, on Monday, requested the court dismiss this case. It argued the enforcement of the Clean Air Act is the United States’ responsibility. The Trump administration emphasized that Grok’s operation is crucial for national security. It’s described as one of only four AI models supporting national security applications and one of three supporting critical operations across classified networks.

The lawsuit claims xAI’s plant, consisting of 27 gas turbines, emits significant pollution. This pollution is linked to asthma, respiratory diseases, heart problems, and certain cancers. The NAACP notes that the communities around the plant have a high Black population.
