The U.S. Park Police is asking for public help to identify an individual seen on surveillance footage connected to the damage at the Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C. This incident is part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged destruction of government property at the historic site.

The event occurred on a Friday afternoon around 3:36 p.m. Police released video footage showing a person kneeling by the Reflecting Pool and reaching into the water. This individual is described as having dark hair, wearing a gray shirt and black shorts, and carrying a light-colored handbag.

A prior refurbishment project aimed to give the Reflecting Pool an ‘American Flag Blue’ appearance. However, complications arose when peeling paint and algae altered the pool’s intended color. Following this, there have been arrests and citations for allegedly damaging the pool.

Former President Donald Trump commented on the situation, describing that a sharp object, such as a box cutter or knife, was used to damage the pool. He referred to the perpetrators as ‘sick people’ and mentioned that some individuals should face significant jail time for their actions.

In addressing the damage, Trump speculated about possible causes, suggesting that fertilizer might have been poured into the pool, contributing to the algae growth. He also alleged that acid was thrown on the nearby grass, causing damage.

Efforts to repair the pool are underway, involving the release of water and cleaning. The National Park Service, along with contractors, has been working to remove algae growth from the pool.
