Welcome to Late Night Roundup, where we recap last night’s standout moments. Here’s what happened.
Comeback Kings
Jalen Brunson, a star player for the New York Knicks, promised during a 2024 appearance on “The Tonight Show” to return with the N.B.A. championship trophy. On Monday, Brunson fulfilled that promise, joining his teammates in front of an elated audience. They held the championship trophy, marking the Knicks’ victory. The crowd roared as Jimmy Fallon remarked, “It sounds like Game 5 in San Antonio here.”
Spike Lee, an avid Knicks fan, charged onto the stage to welcome the team amidst a cascade of confetti. “Let’s go, we’ve been waiting 53 years!” Lee exclaimed. Fallon introduced the champions with enthusiasm, calling them the “kings of the comeback.” The Knicks celebrated their historic 2026 championship win.
The Punchiest Punchlines
Jimmy Fallon and other late-night hosts didn’t hold back on the jokes. Seth Meyers quipped about longtime fans’ skepticism, saying, “But the real, old-school Knick fans are still worried there might be a Game 6.”
Fallon chimed in with humor about a recent absence, “The last time New York City cheered like that was when Trump announced he wouldn’t attend Game 4.” Jimmy Kimmel offered a punchy take on the postgame celebration, noting it was relatively calm with “one shooting, four stabbings, 63 arrests.”
Jon Stewart added his voice, “Our mayor is Muslim, our bagels are Jewish, our Timothée’s Chalamet, Knicks in five,” referencing a viral chant from the finals.
The Bits Worth Watching
Ana Gasteyer, nominated for a Tony Award, discussed her nomination during “Late Night with Seth Meyers.” She shared the stage with her friend and co-star, Rachel Dratch.
