An Oklahoma teenager is in critical condition after participating in a social media trend called the “Benadryl challenge.” This trend has led to hospitalizations of several children.
The challenge involves taking excessive doses of Benadryl to fight sleepiness and achieve a high. This practice can result in severe side effects, such as seizures and cardiac arrest.
Fifteen-year-old Leah Presson is currently in the intensive care unit in Oklahoma. Local outlet KFOR reported that tests revealed she has no brain activity. Her father, Richard Presson, expressed hope, saying, “I don’t even want to think about a funeral because I feel like there’s still hope.” Richard added, “I just want everybody to be aware of where they can educate their kids. But these challenges are just silly, and they need to be educated so it doesn’t happen again.”
