Iranian Delegation Heads to Switzerland for US Talks Amid Regional Tensions

2 hours ago 0

The Iranian negotiating team is set to travel to Switzerland for discussions with the United States regarding their interim agreement related to the ongoing conflict. This was announced by Iranian state television, which quoted a spokesperson from the foreign ministry on Saturday.

The planned journey was initially scheduled for Friday but had to be postponed. The latest update on the schedule came shortly after Iran’s joint military command stated that the Strait of Hormuz has been closed once again. This action is a response to continued military actions by Israel in Lebanon.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Bagahei asserted on state television that any agreement or memorandum must be evaluated on its practical application. He emphasized the importance of implementation in determining the effectiveness of any accord.

Meanwhile, the US-Iran discussions appear to face initial obstacles. Notably, Vice President JD Vance has decided to remain in the country for the time being.

In other developments, officials reported that Israel and Hezbollah have reached an agreement to halt hostilities. This development occurs as the negotiations between the United States and Iran remain uncertain.
