Amber Glenn Responds to Critics After Olympic Success

4 months ago 0

Amber Glenn, an American figure skater, addressed her critics after winning a gold medal in the team event at the Winter Olympics. Having previously announced a social media hiatus due to negative comments following her criticism of the Trump administration, Glenn returned to TikTok to share photos of herself and fellow athlete Alysa Liu. In a pointed caption, she addressed those who had been critical of her.

“They hate to see two woke b—-es winning,” Glenn declared. She continued, “If ‘Woke’ means people who use their platforms to advocate for marginalized communities in the country that they are actively representing …… Then yeah sure?”

Glenn had criticized the Trump administration during a pre-Olympics press conference, highlighting the challenges faced by the LGBTQ community under the administration’s policies. Her comments were among several political statements made by U.S. athletes in the run-up to the Winter Games.

Reflecting on the situation, Glenn stated, “It’s been a hard time for the (LGBTQ) community overall in this administration,” as reported by USA Today. She emphasized the importance of community solidarity, stating that the support within the community had strengthened due to shared challenges affecting various groups.

The online backlash prompted Glenn to take a brief social media break. In a message shared on her Instagram Stories, she wrote about the overwhelming negative feedback she received for expressing her opinions. “When I chose to utilize one of the amazing things about the United States of America (Freedom of speech) to convey how I feel as an athlete competing for Team USA in a troubling time for many Americans, I am now receiving a scary amount of hate/threats for simply using my voice WHEN ASKED about how I feel,” she explained.

Despite anticipating some backlash, Glenn expressed disappointment at the level of hostility. She plans to reduce her social media activity for her own well-being but remains determined to continue advocating for what she believes in.
