Israeli Ambassador Confronts UN Representatives Over Sexual Violence Blacklist

1 hour ago 0

Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, engaged in a heated exchange with Vanessa Frazier, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict. The confrontation occurred due to Frazier’s role in placing Israel on a blacklist related to sexual violence.

During a United Nations meeting on the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, the pair shouted over each other. The meeting followed a report co-authored by Frazier that added Israel to the blacklist.

“You caved to the pressure,” Danon stated, accusing the Secretary General of targeting Israel. Frazier interrupted, leading Danon to assert his right to speak, “Wait, I’m speaking now!”

Ambassador Danon accused Frazier and others of bullying Israel. Danon condemned the UN’s decision to list Israeli entities such as the Israel Defense Forces, the Israel Prison Services, and the country’s border police Counter Terrorism Unit. This decision came after the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, described these organizations as parties suspected of committing sexual violence patterns.

Danon had previously criticized the UN’s actions, announcing a freeze in relations between Israel and Guterres’ office. In a statement, he denounced Israel’s placement on the blacklist alongside Hamas, ISIS, and Boko Haram as a “moral disgrace,” marking a significant stain on António Guterres’ legacy.

The ambassador called for the resignation of UN Special Representative Pramila Patten, criticizing her absence at the meeting. He rebuked Frazier’s attempt to defend Patten, labeling the behavior as shameful.

“Ms. Patten was invited here; she chose not to be here. You work for the UN and must respect its rules. We will not let you bully us,” Danon asserted, addressing Frazier.

Danon argued that Israel cooperated with the UN, alleging that the organization did not independently verify evidence or allow Israel a fair chance to refute allegations. He accused Patten of supporting a politically motivated campaign against Israel.

“What exactly is Ms. Patten’s responsibility if verifying facts is not? You knew Israel had cooperated but stood behind falsehoods. The stain is not on Israel but on you,” Danon stated during the meeting.

Danon’s office plans to file a formal complaint with the UN over Frazier’s interruptions. Fox News Digital contacted spokespersons for Patten and Frazier but did not receive immediate responses.
