Memorable Wedding Ceremony Honors Grandparents’ Legacy

10 hours ago 0

Some weddings stand out for their location, and others for the people involved. For Samantha Albright and Josh Campbell, their intimate ceremony in Aurora held significance due to two absent yet cherished individuals. On a Saturday, they exchanged vows at Chet and Judy Albright Park, a space named in tribute to Samantha’s grandparents. Their enduring impact remains evident within the family and community.

When discussing potential wedding venues, Samantha and Josh initially considered several options. However, reflecting on who would be missing highlighted the perfect choice. Chet Albright, who passed in 2017, had deep roots at Mooseheart. It was there he met Judy, his wife of 56 years. Chet became the first 6th Ward alderman on Aurora’s City Council. His eight-year tenure proved significant, said Ald. Mike Saville, who succeeded him after he stepped down to return to Mooseheart. Chet’s work aided in transitioning the city to a new government form.

As chair of the Plan Commission, he contributed to forming Aurora’s first economic development office. He helped guide the city’s development, including the transformation of a two-lane road to Route 59 near Fox Valley Mall. Chet, once owner of Northgate Barber Shop, was also active in Boys Baseball of Aurora and was involved with local organizations like the Batavia Moose and Aurora Rotary clubs. Meanwhile, Judy worked with special needs children at Hope Wall School.

Known for their love of family and children, Chet and Judy had a reputation for making others feel valued, according to Saville. While Judy tended to be reserved, Chet was a sociable person who remembered faces and names. Samantha recalled their presence at her school and sports events, traveling extensively to support her. Fond memories with her grandfather include sitting and talking in the family’s four-seasons room, where he would prepare speeches.

Samantha’s storytelling grandfather shaped cherished family memories that even touched Josh, who never met Chet or Judy. The wedding, attended by about 16 close relatives, featured significant moments such as exchanging rings. Joshua and Samantha married at Chet and Judy Albright Park on June 20, 2026.

After Chet’s sudden heart attack following a Mooseheart game, Judy gifted her wedding bands to Samantha. These heirlooms remained safe until Samantha and Josh’s engagement. Saville expressed delight that the couple chose a venue he helped establish, dedicated to individuals who committed much to Aurora.

Samantha fondly recalled car rides with her grandfather, who recounted changes within Aurora’s wards. He spoke with optimism and pride about his hometown. Albright Park, officially named in 2023, commemorates Chet and Judy’s contributions to Aurora. On that beautiful Saturday, the park symbolized the enduring pride shared by the couple. A card from Judy to Samantha urged her granddaughter to “enrich the lives of others” as she had enriched Judy’s. Those words are now immortalized in a tattoo on Samantha’s left forearm, visible as she devoted herself to Josh. Samantha acknowledged her grandparents as the foundation of both her life and this meaningful day.
