Savannah Guthrie Makes Emotional Appeal for Missing Mother’s Safe Return

4 months ago 0

In an emotional video shared on Instagram this Wednesday, Savannah Guthrie, the co-anchor of “TODAY,” made a heartfelt appeal for the safe return of her 84-year-old mother. Her mother is feared kidnapped, and Guthrie expressed her family’s desperate need for more information from those responsible. Surrounded by her siblings, she read heartfelt remarks directly to the camera, sharing insights into her family’s struggle and hope.

Throughout the video, Guthrie acknowledged reports of a ransom letter that had been sent to multiple media outlets. She emphasized the importance of verifying her mother’s safety, saying, “We live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated. We need to know, without a doubt, that she is alive and that you have her.” She then pleaded for direct communication, expressing the family’s readiness to engage and listen.

“We want to hear from you, and we are ready to listen. Please reach out to us,” Guthrie implored.

Sitting beside her brother, Camron, and sister, Annie, Savannah Guthrie extended gratitude to the public for their prayers for their cherished mother, Nancy Guthrie. Her mother is described as a “kind, faithful, loyal, fiercely loving woman of goodness and light,” with grandchildren who adore her.

Further shedding light on her mother’s condition, Savannah highlighted Nancy’s fragile health, saying, “She lives in constant pain. She is without any medicine. She needs it to survive, and she needs it not to suffer.” The message was punctuated with words directly for her mother: “Mommy, if you are hearing this, you are a strong woman, you are God’s precious daughter Nancy.”

Jim Cavanaugh, a former special agent of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, remarked on “TODAY” that while the video does not validate the ransom notes, it illustrates the family’s ongoing search for answers. He commended the video for personalizing Nancy, noting her close relationship with her grandchildren.

Nancy Guthrie was reported missing from her Tucson, Arizona home on Sunday after she failed to attend church. She was last seen when family members dropped her off at her residence on Saturday night, around 9:45 p.m. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department suspects she might have been abducted, possibly overnight. Law enforcement at multiple levels, including the FBI, are involved in the investigation but have not yet identified any suspects or persons of interest. They have also indicated no credible evidence of the incident being a targeted abduction.

Further developments saw law enforcement returning to Guthrie’s Arizona home on Wednesday to conduct more inquiries. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump pledged ample resources to assist the investigation. After speaking with Savannah Guthrie, Trump committed to fully supporting both local and federal law enforcement efforts to ensure Nancy’s safe return, emphasizing national solidarity and prayer for the family.

Former “TODAY” co-host, Hoda Kotb, expressed her support and prayers for Nancy during a vigil held at Good Shepherd Church in New York. As law enforcement continues their investigation, it emerged that apparent blood evidence was found near Guthrie’s home, and her pacemaker’s monitoring app showed it disconnected early on Sunday. Despite physical mobility challenges, Guthrie has no cognitive issues, reaffirming an absence of dementia-related disappearance concerns.

Endearing herself to “TODAY” viewers and anchors over time, Savannah Guthrie’s connection to her mother is deeply rooted in her upbringing and faith. “The greatest gift my mother gave me was faith and belief in God. It changed my life,” she shared in a “TODAY” episode aired in May 2023.
