Officials have confirmed that the suspect involved in a shooting incident in Midland, Texas, has been killed. According to Midland Mayor Lori Blong, the incident, which began on Friday morning, resulted in the death of one person and injuries to eleven others.

The shooting started around 8 a.m., initially occurring in one location before moving to an area near a veterinary hospital. Approximately two hours after the incident began, a standoff between the suspect and police was still ongoing.

Witness Andrea Mendias, who works at a nearby auto body shop, reported hearing at least 40 shots. Mendias’ video footage showed numerous officers exiting an armored police vehicle, as law enforcement deployed robots into the scene to handle the situation.

Mayor Blong indicated that the situation was developing and stated, “Officers are containing the situation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and our officers.”

The Midland Police Department issued a social media statement following the shooting, describing the police response to the active shooter on West Wall Street. They noted that officers heard gunfire, quickly securing the area with armored units and assistance from partner agencies. Efforts to resolve the standoff were described as ongoing.

Midland, located in West Texas and home to approximately 140,000 residents, lies at the center of the state’s oil region. It was also near the location of a previous deadly shooting rampage six years ago, in which a gunman, recently fired from his oil services job, killed seven and injured dozens more in the Odessa and Midland areas.
