In Seattle, a sports bar buzzed with an unusual energy as hundreds of tall individuals gathered for a unique event. For once, their height didn’t make them stand out. This was the Tall Tour, a traveling meetup celebrating height across the United States.

Since its inception last summer, the tour has grown from a modest 30 participants in Tampa, Florida, to attracting around 4,000 attendees in Orlando. Seattle saw about 750 participants. The tour is credited to Tyler Bergantino, a 6-foot-9 TikTok creator, who posted an invitation on social media while in Texas. The unexpected response led to a movement he hadn’t anticipated.

Finding Common Ground

The Tall Tour events follow a simple format. Participants take photos, share shoe-shopping tips, and exchange stories about everyday challenges tall people face. For many women, speed dating is a highlight, offering a chance to connect with those comfortable dating taller women.

Ksenia Protasenko, standing at 6 feet, shared her dating experiences, often being perceived as intimidating. She noted the stereotypical assumption that she plays basketball, a notion she counters with humor.

Crowning Achievements

Each event concludes with the crowning of the tallest attendees. In Seattle, a mother and son duo took home the titles. Grayson Mullendore, at 7 feet tall, enjoyed feeling ordinary among peers for the first time. The event allows attendees to shed constant scrutiny and just be themselves.

The Broader Challenges

Height comes with challenges beyond social situations. Finding appropriate clothing and shoes is daunting. Beds often need modifications to accommodate taller frames. For Grayson, creating a comfortable dorm bed was a significant task.

Building a Community

From a casual meetup, the Tall Tour has evolved into a business. Bergantino, with his team, now focuses on expanding the brand. Future plans include speed dating, a fashion show, and even international events. A broader vision includes creating a supportive ecosystem for tall individuals, advocating for practical needs like better clothing and seating options.
