Sixteen years have passed since the biographical drama “The Social Network” was released. Now, Mark Zuckerberg’s story receives a fresh perspective in the upcoming drama “The Social Reckoning.” The first look of this film was unveiled on Wednesday, capturing significant attention.
Directed by Aaron Sorkin, “The Social Reckoning” features Emmy winner Jeremy Allen White and Oscar winner Mikey Madison. Jeremy Strong takes on the role of Zuckerberg, previously portrayed by Jesse Eisenberg in “The Social Network.”
While the prior film focused on Facebook’s inception, this new film centers on the 2021 whistleblowing incident involving Facebook. Madison plays Frances Haugen, the engineer who disclosed thousands of Facebook’s secret documents to the Wall Street Journal. Other notable cast members include Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, Billy Magnussen, and Bill Burr. The film is set for release on October 9 and is produced by Columbia Pictures, Alcon Entertainment, and The Gotham Group, in collaboration with Escape Artists. Sony Pictures Releasing handles distribution.
Following the release of the first look, fans took to social media, praising the impressive cast. Comments included praises like, “Jeremy Strong, Jeremy Allen White, and Mikey Madison is an absurdly stacked cast for a tech drama.” Another viewer observed, “This pairing is actually really interesting. Jeremy Allen White and Mikey Madison in a story like this feels intense and grounded, especially with a whistleblower angle.”
The social media buzz continued with statements such as, “White as the WSJ reporter and Madison as Haugen? Sorkin going full whistleblower mode. This is gonna slap.” Another fan declared, “Jeremy Allen White and Mikey Madison is a seriously strong casting combo.”
Critics also noted Strong’s portrayal of Zuckerberg, particularly his impactful delivery of the line, “I’m not two years out of a dorm room anymore Charlie!” This statement signifies how Facebook has evolved from its early days, reflecting its growth and associated challenges.
