Cam Schlittler Impresses with Performance
New York Yankees ace Cam Schlittler delivered an exceptional performance both on the field and online. Schlittler, 25, attained a career-high of 13 strikeouts during six innings without allowing any runs, leading the Yankees to a 5-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.
Schlittler, who hails from Walpole, Massachusetts, had previously caught the attention of a Boston Red Sox fan before Game 3 of the AL Wild Card Game in October last year. He silenced the Red Sox hitters with an impressive 12 strikeouts over eight scoreless innings, although the critical noise from Boston fans has increased.
Strong Social Media Presence
Following his impressive start on Friday, Schlittler took action against a fan who stepped over the line. He shared screen-recordings of the insults from the fan on his Instagram Story, labeling the post with “Rent Free” and accompanying it with two laughing emojis.
The abusive messages began in October during Schlittler’s Wild Card start. A fan with the Instagram handle “Kyle_Lynch11” insulted Schlittler, calling him a clown. The derogatory messages didn’t cease, with one saying, “Never forget where u came from.”
Continued Tensions
The insults persisted throughout several months, including insults calling Schlittler a “p—y.” A message with vomit emojis was sent after one of the Yankees star’s outfits was seen, prompting Schlittler to respond, “Stop glazing lil bro.”
Lynch continued the insults against Schlittler, wrongly predicting that the Reds would easily defeat him on Friday. Contrary to Lynch’s prediction, Schlittler achieved an American League-leading ERA of 1.71, boasting a record of 8-3 with 109 strikeouts across 95 innings.
Unwavering Dedication
Schlittler’s combination of fastball, sinker, and cutter effectively overpowered hitters. The pitcher addressed more serious threats when speaking to reporters, remarking that he and his family had received death threats from fervent Red Sox supporters.
