A Canadian teenager faces arson charges after allegedly setting fire to a charter bus owned by an American professional baseball team. The incident occurred during the Kane County Cougars’ road trip to Winnipeg, Canada, where the team was scheduled to play against the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
Incident Details
On May 21, law enforcement responded to the scene at Blue Cross Park, where the team’s bus was ablaze. The Winnipeg Police Service confirmed that the fire was deliberately started. Authorities initially detained two teenagers, and subsequently, a 15-year-old girl was charged with arson causing damage to property and possession of incendiary materials. The girl was later released to a responsible adult.
Impact on the Team
The Winnipeg Police Service stated the fire completely destroyed the bus and its contents. Jackson Greteman, operations manager at Windstar, expressed dismay over the incident. He noted the destruction of the bus, valued at approximately $425,000, would affect their business operations. Despite the loss, Greteman was relieved there were no injuries and confirmed cooperation with local authorities.
Ongoing Investigation
As investigations continue, authorities have not released information on a potential motive for the arson. Further updates will follow as more details emerge.
