The Department of Homeland Security will adjust travel regulations for Iran’s national soccer team before their final World Cup group match against Egypt in Seattle. A DHS spokesperson announced that the team, known as “Team Melli,” would be allowed to travel from their base in Tijuana, Mexico, to the United States two days prior to the match on Friday, June 26.
This adjustment gives the team an additional day to prepare compared to earlier games. Although they must leave immediately after the match, the focus of this decision is on pitch safety amid ongoing diplomatic tensions and previous visa refusals affecting key members of the team staff.
The change adds to a growing logistical challenge faced by the Iranian team. Since arriving at their training camp in Mexico, they have encountered numerous difficulties including visa refusals, strict border curfews, and unexpected security updates.
This situation will continue to develop. Further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
