Nvidia introduced new high-performance chips on Monday, designed to integrate advanced artificial intelligence functions into laptops and desktop computers. These new models, from brands like Microsoft and Dell, are set to launch later this year.
Nvidia, based in Santa Clara, California, has been successful in supplying high-end chips for data centers amidst a global surge in AI demand. Now, the company seeks to expand its footprint across AI systems and products. Jensen Huang, the Taiwanese-American founder and CEO of Nvidia, announced this at the annual Nvidia GTC event in Taipei.
During his keynote speech, Huang stated, “Microsoft and Nvidia are going to reinvent the PC.” He revealed Nvidia’s RTX Spark superchip, which merges CPU and GPU capabilities. This chip will power new Windows laptops and desktops, referred to as “AI personal computers,” expected to launch this fall.
Nvidia, now the world’s most valuable company, surpasses Apple, Alphabet, and Microsoft. At the Computex trade show in Taipei, Huang introduced laptop models featuring RTX Spark GPUs.
The company aims to revolutionize personal computers for creation and gaming. According to Huang, AI agents within these PCs will understand and interact naturally with users. This capability allows the PCs to perform tasks such as reading files and conducting research.
Huang emphasized that the new devices could handle tasks from digital biology to astrophysics, likening the advancement to the smartphone’s invention.
Microsoft stated that PCs using Nvidia’s RTX superchips would support sophisticated AI models and complex tasks. These advancements allow AI agents to operate locally on the computers.
According to Lian Jye Su, chief analyst at Omdia, Nvidia’s introduction of these chips provides consumers with more choices, reflecting growing demand for personal AI agents. Neil Shah of Counterpoint Research noted that this technology sets the stage for significant changes in PC design over the next decade, aiming for an “AI supercomputer” in every home.
Huang also announced that Nvidia’s Vera CPUs for data centers are in full production, expected to drive major growth due to the AI agent boom. Early adopters will include companies like Anthropic, OpenAI, and SpaceXAI. Additionally, Huang unveiled a humanoid robot reference design, offering a blueprint for future research, particularly in higher education.
